Silverlake
Silverlake Los Angeles
Silver Lake Los Angeles and it’s adjacent neighbors (Hollywood, Atwater Village, Echo Park, Mount Washington, Glassell Park, Eagle Rock and Los Feliz) are hip, trendy and culturally diverse neighborhoods, with a wide variety of shopping, culinary and social experiences.
Part of Silver Lake’s charm is its somewhat windy and hilly streets and, of course, the Silver Lake Reservoir, which is composed of two basins, with the lower named Silver Lake and the upper named Ivanhoe. The lower body of water was named in 1906 after Water Board Commissioner Herman Silver and, in turn, lends its name to the neighborhood. The upper body received its name after the 1819 Sir Walter Scott Novel Ivanhoe.
If you are someone who is passionate about architecture, you will really appreciate the variety of home types, including craftsman, Spanish style and contemporary homes and buildings, which can be seen throughout Silver Lake and its adjacent neighborhoods.
Some of the local favorite dining spots include Cliff’s Edge (for a fine dining, one-of-a-kind experience), Koda Sushi (they have a great happy hour), Good Microbrewery (not only great beer, but great food), Bulan Thai Vegetarian Kitchen (the name speaks for itself), El Conquistador (best margaritas in Silver Lake), Flying Leap Café (great breakfasts), Malo (eclectic Mexican), and El Chavo (Dolly Parton’s favorite Mexican restaurant when she comes to Los Angeles).
And let’s forget the eclectic Silver Lake night life. The 4100 bar, Akbar, The Red Lion, and Cha Cha Lounge are just a few popular neighborhood hot spots. I cannot forget to mention my favorite place to grab a drink and listen to live music: The Other Side. A piano bar with personality and charm, The Other Side always showcases a variety of talent. Each night is a different experience!
